Hey everyone,
I’d like to open a discussion around the idea of adding a “None of the Above” (NOTA) option to our governance voting process. In many democratic systems, NOTA gives people a way to express that they don’t support any of the proposed options, without having to abstain entirely. I think this could be a valuable addition for us as well.
Right now, if someone disagrees with all proposals—or feels they’re incomplete, biased, or not well-thought-out—the only option is to not vote or to vote “no” on each item individually. But that doesn’t always capture the nuance of the objection. Including a NOTA option could give the community a way to signal dissatisfaction in a more transparent way. Over time, this might encourage higher-quality proposals, since proposers would know that indifference or frustration could be reflected clearly in voting outcomes.
I’m curious how others feel about this. Would a NOTA option add value, or just complicate things unnecessarily? How might it affect quorum and vote thresholds? And should there be any consequences or required follow-up if NOTA receives the most support in a vote? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on whether this kind of mechanism could work in our system.
