Hey everyone,
Scalability is one of the biggest challenges in DAO governance. As a DAO grows, decision-making can become slower and less efficient. More members mean more proposals, longer discussions, and potential voter fatigue. Reaching quorum can also become harder if participation drops.
One major issue is that simple on-chain voting mechanisms don’t always scale well. Gas fees can be a barrier, and high participation requirements can lead to governance gridlock. Delegated voting and reputation-based systems help, but they introduce their own risks, like centralization of power among a few key actors.
Another challenge is maintaining community engagement. In smaller DAOs, members are more invested in decisions. As the DAO scales, governance can feel impersonal, leading to apathy. How do we ensure that new members are informed and active in governance without overwhelming them?
Some DAOs are experimenting with subDAOs, where smaller groups handle specific tasks while the main DAO focuses on high-level decisions. Others are looking at AI and automation to streamline voting and proposal filtering.
What solutions do you think work best? How can we make governance scalable without sacrificing decentralization and participation?
